Résumé

This paper presents several approaches for managing the reporting of intelligent electronic devices (IED) failures in ways that are compliant with the IEC 61850 standard. After a short introduction to the standard and its functional division into logical nodes (LN), we shall analyse the IEDs and how we can deal with their failures in accordance with this standard. We shall finish this paper by recommending the introduction of a new logical node class and a group to contain it (as a short-term solution) and proposing the addition of a new part to the standard (as a long-term solution).
